About this place
A short distance from the Yotsuya-sanchome intersection, along Yasukuni-dori, Yakiton Akashi serves an appealing range of skewers at reasonable prices. Each cut has its own seasoning: tongue comes with salt and lemon, which brings out its firm texture; liver is grilled until tender; and chire is finished with savoury soy sauce. Thick slices of heart and cheek are delicious simply salted, too—a good match for another drink alongside the fragrant skewers.
There is plenty to choose from between skewers, including the plate wontons, a house favourite that diners often order. Refreshing lightly pickled myoga ginger and mitsuba, or vinegared gatsu, offer a welcome contrast to the richer grilled meat. For something more indulgent, the menu also includes Gorgonzola penne, a generously flavoured cheese dish that feels unexpected at a yakiton restaurant.
The drinks list has the relaxed feel of a neighbourhood bar, with bottled Sapporo Lager alongside Hoppy, Baisu sour and soy milk highballs. The compact interior has counter and table seating, as well as a terrace where you can enjoy the open air. Open from 16:00, it suits an after-work drink or a casual get-together with friends.
